San Joaquin County Supervisors are getting ready to approve new cannabis regulations for personal and commercial use. The new ordinances are up for a vote Jan. 9.

They are expected to approve an ordinance to allow the personal cultivation of up to six marijuana plants grown indoors.

But there are many issues before one can get a permit such as obtaining the owner’s approval if you rent and keeping any odors from escaping.

County Deputy Counsel Zoey Merrill says there’s also a hefty fee for that permit plus other costs.

“Approximately $170, there is expected to an additional inspection fee which could be approximately $150.”

Merrill says the tax revenue on commercial cannabis businesses could be as high $20 million annually and which could be split among childhood education and youth programs and cannabis enforcement.
