West Van PD issue reminder after department’s first ticket under new Cannabis legislation

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – An Alberta man has been slapped with a $230 fine for having a pipe within reach in his car.

West Vancouver Police Constable Jeff Palmer says the ticket was issued after a car was pulled over during a road block Tuesday morning near the Lions Gate Bridge.

“The officer observed that there was a pipe with some suspected cannabis in it, visible in the centre console area of the vehicle,” he tells NEWS 1130. “Possessing cannabis in a motor vehicle is prohibited under the new Cannabis Control and Licensing Act.”

The ticket marks the West Vancouver Police Department’s first under the new legislation. Palmer says there was no evidence of impairment, so the 23-year-old driver was sent on is way after the violation ticket was written.
