The Cannabis Control Commission has hired former Department of Defense official Alisa Stack as its chief operating officer.
The role is a new position for the growing agency, which oversees the state’s marijuana industry and has more than 60 employees.
Stack is former general manager at Takoma Wellness Center, a medical marijuana dispensary in Washington, D.C.
Before that, she worked for the Department of Defense for more than 20 years in a variety of roles, including director of detainee policy.
According to the publication New Cannabis Ventures, Stack spent two years in Afghanistan as deputy chief of staff for stability operations in Kabul.
She holds degrees from the University of Washington, the National War College and Columbia University.
